Tip Of The Day: Ask The Right Person The Right Questions

During my lectures I emphasise the importance of frame of reference and the fact that the best stories do not usually come from press releases. For a brilliant example of this, see this post on Toyota UK’s blog.

British journalist Andrew English had the opportunity to interview the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ’s chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, and probably got more than he bargained for!

When attending a launch, ask beforehand who you will have access to and prepare questions (this is where frame of reference comes into play). I never ask questions in the open sessions, but prefer one-on-one discussions, as you’ll then have exclusive content.

As you’ll see, English’s article is remarkably simple – a short intro, followed by Tada’s own words… and it’s fascinating.
