As a member of the World Car Of The Year (WCOTY) jury I was recently asked to complete a questionnaire about the future of motoring journalism. Only the 60-odd international WCOTY jurors took part in the survey, so it was by no means a vast project. The results have been fairly predictable, with strong agreement on digital being the primary platform for news, and that journalists will have to feed multiple channels (traditional and social media) going forward. There also seems to be broad agreement that embargoes are a thing of the past. I’m not sure I agree with the general feeling about “the rise of bloggers” and “star” journalists. I think the rise in influence and importance of these “journalists” will be faster than what is the current thinking (according to the research results).
